Musketeers' West finalist for national senior award

Xavier forward David West has been named as a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, which is presented to the outstanding male and female senior NCAA Division I basketball players.

West leads 18-4 Xavier, ranked 14th in the latest Associated Press poll, in both scoring (20.4 ppg.) and rebounding (12.6 rpg.).

The Senior CLASS Award, an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, is the brainchild of sportscaster Dick Enberg.

Fans can cast ballots at Fan votes will be combined with votes of national media and coaches committees.

The other men's finalists: Matt Carroll (Notre Dame), Nick Collison (Kansas), Brian Cook (Illinois), Reece Gaines (Louisville), Jason Gardner (Arizona), Kirk Hinrich (Kansas), Josh Howard (Wake Forest), Kyle Korver (Creighton) and Hollis Price (Oklahoma).

MIAMI: Junior Juby Johnson was named Mid-American Conference East Division player of the week.

Johnson scored a game-high 21 pointsin a 69-49 win over Marshall on Saturday.

The win snapped a two-game skid for the RedHawks and moved them to within one game of East Division leader Kent State.

For the second time in her career, junior forward Colleen Day has been named the MAC East Division women's player of the week. Day shared the honor with Marshall's Catie Knable.
