Xavier women lose to Dayton




        Dayton opened Monday's game at Xavier with a 19-2 run and held off a Musketeers' rally for an 80-68 victory.

        The Musketeers, who trailed by as many as 20, clawed back to within three points with 12 minutes to play. The Flyers held on, shooting 55.2 percent.

        Cincinnati natives Chrissy Donovan (St. Ursula) and Sarah Allen (Mt. Notre Dame) sparked the Flyers. Donovan scored 17 points and Allen 11.

        Amy Waugh led Xavier with 19 points.

        DAYTON (80) — Hineline 11-14 3-5 25, Allen 4-9 2-2 13, Haselman 2-5 2-2 6, Sullivan 1-4 0-0 2, Donovan 7-12 0-1 17, McFadden 2-8 0-0 6, Burns 3-4 1-2 7, Winner 2-2 0-0 4. Totals: 32-58 8-12 80.

        XAVIER (68) — Wells 1-6 0-0 2, Bell 0-6 3-4 3, Kreager 9-16 0-0 18, Waugh 6-12 4-6 19, Piipari 7-19 1-2 18, Statuto 0-1 0-0 0, Cuncic 0-2 0-0 0, Sarajlija 1-3 1-2 3, Henderson 2-6 1-3 5. Totals: 26-71 10-17 68.

        Halftime: Dayton 47, Xavier 36. 3-pointers: D 8-14 (Allen 3-6, Donovan 3-5, McFadden 2-3), Xavier 6-14 (Bell 0-3, Waugh 3-5, Piipari 3-6). Records: Dayton 8-11 (5-3), Xavier 7-13 (2-6).
