Phillips, Tuukkanen cut by WNBA
By Neil Schmidt
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Two of the three Xavier basketball players taken in last month's WNBA draft have been cut: Jennifer Phillips by the Charlotte Sting and Taru Tuukkanen by the New York Liberty.
XU's Nicole Levandusky, taken in the second round by the Los Angeles Sparks, remains with the team.
PIIPARI HELPS FINLAND: XU junior-to-be Reetta Piipari returned to her native Finland this weekend to play for the Finnish National Team. The team, coached by her father, Risto, is playing England, Greece and Sweden in a tune-up tournament, then competing Wednesday through Friday in the European Championships qualifier.
Tuukkanen, also a Finland native, stayed at XU because she is graduating next weekend but said she probably would play for Finland in upcoming rounds of the European Championships.
