Prosser said to be staying put

Sources say he didn't interview for Seton Hall job

By Neil Schmidt and Michael Perry
The Cincinnati Enquirer

It appears Xavier coach Skip Prosser is not a candidate for the Seton Hall coaching opening.

Contrary to newspaper and Internet reports, Seton Hall athletic director Jeff Fogelson — a former Xavier AD and longtime friend of Prosser — did not go to Minneapolis last weekend to interview Prosser for the job. Nor did Prosser go to New Jersey to meet with Seton Hall officials. Sources told The Enquirer that Fogelson never asked Xavier AD Mike Bobinski for official permission to talk to Prosser, and no formal job offer was made.

Prosser and Bobinski declined to comment Monday. Fogelson has said he wouldn't comment until the naming of his new coach.

The Seton Hall job was reportedly Prosser's if he wanted it, but he has expressed happiness with his Xavier contract, which runs through the 2006-07 season.

Siena released a statement Monday saying Seton Hall had asked for permission to speak to coach Louis Orr.

The Asbury Park (N.J.) Press reported that Iona coach Jeff Ruland was contacted and could interview as early as today — another sign Fogelson is moving on to other candidates.

Prosser returned home from the Final Four on Sunday night and spent Monday morning in his office.

He issued the announcement that junior Lloyd Price had been dismissed from the program then attended Reds' Opening Day game.
