Balcomb finalist for top coach

Xavier's Melanie Balcomb is one of three nominees for ESPN Magazine's women's basketball coach of the year award.

The others are Oklahoma's Sherri Coale and Notre Dame's Muffet McGraw.

The nominees were chosen by the 40 coaches who vote in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.

The winner will be announced during the magazine's inaugural college basketball awards, televised live from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday on ESPN.

Balcomb also has been named a finalist for Naismith coach of the year.
