Call off the APB for Kevin Frey. He turned up Saturday night atop the box score.
The Xavier junior forward ended a three-game slump by totaling 22 points, nine rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Perhaps we had to do a better job finding him, XU coach Skip Prosser said.
Frey had averaged just 5.3 points the previous three games and didn't grab any rebounds in the Temple game a week ago. He had started wondering about his place in the offense.
It took some assertiveness, Frey said. I looked for my shot, and even though my jumper wasn't falling, I was getting to the basket.
XU wants to cultivate balanced scoring. After a period of 14 games in which David West was the leading scorer 11 times, there have been four different leading scorers the past four games.
A lot of (Frey's slump) was we kept going to David, XU assistant Mark Schmidt said. We needed Kevin to play not just on the perimeter, but get him going to the inside. We needed a second guy (scoring) inside.
PROSSER NEARS MARK: With XU's next victory, Skip Prosser will record his fifth consecutive 20-victory season. He will become the first XU coach to do that. Pete Gillen had a run of four consecutive 20-win seasons from 1987-88 to 1990-91.
X-FILES: XU is 12-1 at home. ... Prosser's radio show tonight on WLW-AM (700) has a different time: 7:30-8:30 p.m.
UP NEXT: XU plays host to St. Bonaventure (15-9, 6-6 A-10) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
