Former Muskies see NBA action
Hill's, Grant's teams among best
By Neil Schmidt
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Eleven years in the NBA, and Tyrone Hill finally plays for a championship contender.
Hill's is the most admirable spot among the five Xavier grads in the NBA. The 1990 grad starts for Philadelphia, which has the NBA's best record (39-14).
He's averaging 9.4 points and 9.3 rebounds a game. His 159 offensive rebounds ranks eighth in the NBA. His numbers are in line with what he has done 10 consecutive seasons.
A look at the other XU grads in the NBA:
Brian Grant is hot on Hill's heels, as his Miami Heat (32-20 entering play Saturday) have the Eastern Conference's second-best record. He ranks 13th in rebounding (9.7), and his 15.2-point scoring average is a career high. He has had 24 double-doubles this season.
Second-year player James Posey starts for a 28-25 Denver team. He averages 7.5 points and 4.9 rebounds.
Aaron Williams has started 25 games for the New Jersey Nets, his seventh team in seven seasons. His averages of 10.6 points and 7.9 rebounds are career bests. His 151 offensive rebounds rank 13th in the NBA.
Derek Strong has played 25 games for the L.A. Clippers, averaging 3.9 points and 3.9 rebounds.
Michael Hawkins played 10 games for Cleveland, totaling eight points and 13 assists, before being waived.
Torraye Braggs was waived by Detroit after beginning the season on the injured list. He then played for the Indiana Legends of the ABA, leading the team in scoring (17.8 avg.) and rebounds (9.0) through nine games before being released last month.
The move came because Braggs refused to conform to team and ABA standards, including respect for the coaching staff and his fellow players, Legends general manager Matt Ingram said.
