WXIX blames satellite
By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
It was a satellite uplink problem that kept Channel 64 from airing the Xavier-Wisconsin game Saturday.
It's very frustrating, said Mary Ewing, general manager of the station. We tried to get another bird but (the satellite company) was not very cooperative.
WB64 planned to show the game on tape delay at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. A crew was driving back a tape of the game that included all but the first two minutes.
That was little consolation to viewers who tuned for the 2 p.m. tipoff and saw a special on Third Rock from the Sun, then cartoons instead of the Xavier game.
We fielded 400 calls, Ewing said. Doing Xavier games means so much to us, we're very disappointed. It hurts.
