Xavier's best home games at the Gardens
(Since 1983-84 when the Gardens became XU's full-time home court)
1. Xavier 60, Ohio State 57 (OT) -- 3-15-84, NIT
The Buckeyes had a scheduling conflict and could not host the first-round NIT game, which turned out to be a thriller with XU pulling the upset behind Jeff Jenkins' 30 points.
2. Xavier 115, Loyola Marymount 113 -- 1-2-90
For pure entertainment, this might have been the best ever. High-scoring LMU had Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers. Xavier's Tyrone Hill scored 38.
3. Massachusetts 78, Xavier 74 (OT) -- 2-4-96
The Musketeers' near upset of the No. 1-ranked Minutemen put them on the map nationally and sent a message to the rest of the Atlantic 10: We're here.
4. Xavier 66, Cincinnati 64 -- 12-18-99
Xavier upset the Bearcats when they were No. 1 for the second time in four years. The Musketeers broke a 62-62 tie with Kevin Frey scoring their last four points on two free throws and a layup with 8.9 seconds left.
5. Xavier 82, Cincinnati 76 (OT) -- 1-19-94
The game itself was a spectacle. Both teams were in the top 25. UC was down 18 in the first half. Then the aftermath: Bob Huggins refused to shake hands with Pete Gillen.
6. Xavier 90, Cincinnati 88 (OT) -- 1-31-90
Jamal Walker won it with a 3 from the corner after a controversial call awarded an out-of-bounds ball to the Musketeers.
7. George Washington 93, Xavier 92 (2OT) -- 2-12-94
Jeff Massey hit a 3-pointer and was fouled with 7.3 seconds left. He made the free throw to put XU up one. But then GW's Vaughn Jones, a backup guard, drove the length of the floor and banked in a runner to save the Colonials.
Xavier 65, Princeton 58 -- 3-17-99, NIT
The Musketeers rallied from a 15-point deficit and earned a trip to the NIT semifinals. James Posey had 19 points and 11 rebounds and was hoisted onto the students shoulders afterward.
9. Xavier 68, Temple 64 (OT) -- 1-19-97
XU's first victory over Temple in the John Chaney era, a breakthrough against one of the
perennial A-10 powers.
10. Xavier 81, St. Louis 72 (OT) -- 2-15-86
A big victory for the Musketeers in a showdown between the top two teams in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference.
