Xavier to sign player this week
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Xavier will sign one player and maybe two after the early period for high school athletes to sign national letters-of-intent begins today.
Romain Guessagba-Sato (Dayton Christian), who has verbally committed, is expected to sign Friday night during his high school's version of Midnight Madness.
Brandon Crump, the 6-foot-10 player from Houston who visited Xavier in October, will make his decision over the weekend, his mother said Tuesday night. She said Brandon is mostly choosing among Xavier, Houston and Tennessee, though she would not completely rule out Memphis.
Crump has the grades and test score needed to be eligible next season.
Xavier would prefer to sign a big man who will be able to compete as a freshman. The Musketeers are smarting this fall from not having freshmen guards David Young and Lionel Chalmers, both of whom are academically ineligible.
Guessagba-Sato, a native of the Central African Republic who nine months ago couldn't speak English, has yet to qualify academically.
XU has recruited Randy Holbrook of Kirkwood, Mo., and Marcus Douthit of Syracuse, N.Y. Holbrook does not yet have the necessary test score to be eligible. Douthit has not yet visited XU.
