Xavier picked to win A-10 West

The Xavier Musketeers are again picked to win the Atlantic 10 West Division in voting by the league's coaches and media.

All-conference selections will be announced today at A-10 media day in Philadelphia.

Xavier, which lost stars Lenny Brown, Gary Lumpkin and James Posey, received 30 of 42 first-place votes. It is the third consecutive year XU has been predicted to win the West; it was picked to finish second in 1996-97.

Xavier has won or shared the West title in two of the four years it has been in the A-10 and last season finished second to George Washington.

Xavier's Darnell Williams, who sat out last season with a knee injury, was selected preseason second-team All-A 10.

Williams was a second-team pick as a junior after the 1997-98 season when he led the Musketeers in scoring (17.3 ppg).

XU sophomore Lloyd Price was picked to the third team. He was a member of the all-rookie team last season.
