Lumpkin to play in Finland

BY MICHAEL PERRY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Gary Lumpkin, a four-year starter at Xavier's point guard, has signed a one-year contract to play in Finland, his agent Anil Vaswani said Friday.

Lumpkin leaves Thursday and will compete for Kotkan Tyovaen Palloilijat in Kouvola, Finland, on the country's east coast.

“I can start over again,” Lumpkin said. “I think it'll be good for me to get away for a while.”

Vaswani said the contract has an out clause should Lumpkin received a better offer from another team, including in the United States, by Oct. 31.
