Scholarship offered to G-F McIntosh

Roger Bacon High School graduate Brandon McIntosh will receive a scholarship and become a member of Xavier's basketball team in the fall, coach Skip Prosser said Thursday.

McIntosh, a 6-foot-5 guard-forward, attended Xavier this year as a freshman but did not play or practice with the Musketeers. Prosser had said that if McIntosh was in good academic standing at the end of the year, he would receive a scholarship.

McIntosh will be one of five newcomers and should give the Muske teers some versatility because of his ability to score and rebound.

McIntosh is No.2 on Roger Bacon's all-time scoring list with 1,248 career points.

“He's got the physical tools,” said XU's all-time leading scorer, Byron Larkin, the Musketeers' radio analyst who has been playing pick-up games against McIntosh. “He just needs to learn how to play at this level.

“He's strong as an ox. At times, no one can stop him. If he goes to the hole hard and strong, he's like a bull.”

During one outing this winter at O'Connor Sports Center on campus, McIntosh threw down a rebound dunk with two hands and tore down the backboard.

“He's grown up being a finesse player,” Larkin said. “He should be less finesse and more power.

SCHEDULING UPDATE: Xavier still needs two non-conference games. Right now, the non-league schedule includes home games against Cincinnati, St.Mary's College, Toledo, Maryland-Eastern Shore and East Tennessee State and away games at Central Michigan, Canisius and Miami. That does not include the Great Alaska Shootout.

XU also is reportedly close to locking up a series with Marquette, but no contract has been signed.
