Notre Dame talking, but Prosser isn't

NEW YORK — WNDU, a South Bend, Ind., television station, reported Monday night that Xavier coach Skip Prosser met with Notre Dame officials Monday morning, but XU Athletic Director Mike Bobinski said he was not aware of any meeting between Prosser and Notre Dame that would take place before the Musketeers' season is over.

Notre Dame last week asked for permission to talk to Prosser.

“At this point, I'm not interested in commenting on this thing at all,” Bobinski said. “It's Notre Dame's search.”

Prosser would not comment Monday night.

Notre Dame Athletic Director Mike Wadsworth and Associate Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham are in New York City and reportedly interviewing candidates for the men's basketball coach's job.

The South Bend Tribune confirmed that Notre Dame officials talked Saturday with Utah coach Rick Majerus and were scheduled to meet Monday with Bill Carmody of Princeton. The paper could not confirm that Mike Brey from Delaware has also been interviewed but is reporting that he was in New Jersey over the weekend for the Duke-Temple game.

Prosser, also a candidate for the job, and his wife Nancy are in New York with the Musketeers, who are playing tonight in the NIT semifinals. — Michael Perry
