NIT ROUNDUP
Cal rally dooms DePaul
The Associated Press
ROSEMONT, Ill. This time Cal got the close victory. And the Golden Bears are moving to the third round of the NIT after overcoming a 17-point deficit and edging DePaul 58-57 Tuesday night.
Francisco Elson hit a go-ahead basket with 2:11 to go and Cal survived a controversial finish and a miss at the buzzer by DePaul's Willie Coleman to advance against Colorado State, an 86-76 winner over Colorado.
Cal (19-11) also avenged a three-point loss to DePaul (18-13) on the same floor at the Rosemont Horizon back in November.
With Cal leading by one, the Bears' Thomas Kilgore missed a shot with 21 seconds left and DePaul's Quentin Richardson rebounded.
DePaul tried to set up a winning shot, but Coleman got tangled up under the basket and Cal came up with the ball.
Clemson 78, Rutgers 68
PISCATAWAY, N.J. Harold Jamison had 12 points, 15 rebounds and capped a late 10-2 run that led Clemson.
Terrell McIntyre added 16 and the Tigers (18-14) used their superior size to generate 20 second-chance points in advancing to a quarterfinal game against Butler (22-9).
Colorado St. 86, Colorado 76
FORT COLLINS Ceedric Goodwyn scored 21 points and Colorado State shot a season-high 56 percent.
Milt Palacio had 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds and Andre McKanstry added 16 points for Colorado State (19-10).
Colorado State will play at California on Thursday.
