Odom, Rhode Island storm into final
The Associated Press
PHILADELPHIA Lamar Odom had 17 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds as Rhode Island stormed into the Atlantic 10 championship game with a 94-78 victory over George Washington Friday night.
Rhode Island (19-12) led by 30 points with four minutes left before the desperate Colonials reeled off 17 straight points. Rams coach Jim Harrick angrily called a timeout, and the Rams held off their rival.
Shawnta Rogers, George Washington's 5-foot-4 point guard, was 1-for-9 from the field before halftime and didn't score his second basket until hitting a jumper with 11:21 left.
But Rogers ended up with 22 points on 6-for-20 shooting, with eight of them coming during the garbage-time run while the Rams had four subs on the floor.
The Rams, on the bubble for NCAA Tournament consideration, play Temple in the A-10 title game today.
Antonio Reynolds-Dean had 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting and nine rebounds for the Rams, who led 45-24 at halftime and turned it into a shameful 30-point rout before GW's comeback. Luther Clay had 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Yegor Mescheriakov had 21 points for the Colonials (20-8).
