Xavier women win tourney opener
PHILADELPHIA Kim Hotz had 22 points, six rebounds and six assists and Nicole Levandusky added 20 points in an 84-67 victyory over Rhode Island in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament.
After Rhode Island (5-22) cut a 13-point halftime deficit to 48-44 in the second half, Xavier (21-7) went on an 18-3 run to seal the win, capped by layup by Jennifer Phillips with 8:30 left in the game.
The Musketeers advance to play Massachusetts in a quarterfinal matchup today.
Phillips added 18 points and six rebounds for Xavier, which tied a school record for most wins in a season.
