One senior has rough senior night
BY MICHAEL PERRY

The last Musketeer in line to congratulate Xavier's outgoing seniors before the game Wednesday night was injured classmate Darnell Williams.
It was a tough evening for Williams, who is redshirting this season with a knee injury. He came to Xavier with Lenny Brown, Gary Lumpkin and James Posey but will be back for one more season without his long-time teammates.
It's somewhat awful, he said before the festivities. I came in with them and now it's their senior night. I might as well be a freshman. It's hard.
I'm looking forward to next year, but they'll be gone. It still won't be the same.
So, did Xavier's 90-62 victory over Dayton No. 20 for the season put the Musketeers in the NCAA Tournament? XU coach Skip Prosser wouldn't come out and say that.
I don't know, he said. I think 12 wins in this league is pretty significant. They're talking about teams who have six or seven wins in their league being able to go to the tournament.
With a 12-3 Atlantic 10 record with one game left, Xavier already has more regular-season conference victories than last year (11).
In the early 1980s, The Lumpkin Family Singers performed in New Jersey, Philadelphia and Maryland. They sang gospel music, performed at churches and even cut an album.
Lumpkin's three brothers and two sisters, linked arm-and-arm, brought a little revival to the Cincinnati Gardens on Wednesday night, performing the national anthem before the game.
Their gospel-flavored rendition was a hit with the fans.
Xavier is 78-37 over the past four seasons, including 48-7 at the Cincinnati Gardens.
The Musketeers are 39-2 at the Gardens the past three years. The only losses were to Duquesne (1997) and Massachusetts (1998).
Posey came into the game having hit 50 of his last 54 free throws, including 12 in a row. He already set an XU record by hitting 31 straight.
Xavier's last regular-season game is at noon Saturday at George Washington (ESPN).
The winner of the game will be Atlantic 10 West division champion.
