Turner turns in best performance

BY MICHAEL PERRY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Freshman Aaron Turner started his third game for Xavier Tuesday and had his best outing of the season.

He scored two of XU's first three baskets and went on to finish with 10 points and 13 rebounds — both career highs — in Xavier's 88-71 victory over LaSalle. In his three starts, he has averaged 6.7 points and 8.3 boards with five assists.

“I'm more loose and warm now,” Turner said. “Sitting, you get stiff. I'm just coming out hyped and ready to go.”

Turner came off the bench in his first eight games after being declared eligible Jan.12 and averaged 4.1 points and 3.6 rebounds as a reserve.

Butler finally scores
Reggie Butler entered Tuesday night's game with 4:09 to play in the first half, and at the 3:35 mark, the 6-foot-10 sophomore took an inside pass from Lenny Brown and scored.

They were Butler's first points since Nov.26 against Pittsburgh. Butler was playing in just his second game in the last seven.

Milestone
Skip Prosser won his 100th game as the Musketeers' coach.

“I don't have any wins at Xavier,” he said. “I don't make any baskets. I don't think I have a coaching record. The kids play. They're the ones who deserve credit.”

Notable numbers
Xavier's 14-game home winning streak is tied for 11th-best in the country. ...James Posey has 74 steals this season — the school single-season record is 81 set by Brown last year. ...Brown has 224 career steals — the school record is 226 set by Anthony Hicks (1979-83).

Up next
XU plays at Massachusetts at noon Saturday. UMass (11-13, 7-5) plays at George Washington (9 p.m. today, ESPN2).
