Williams dresses - for workout

BY MICHAEL PERRY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Darnell Williams turned some heads Tuesday night.

The injured senior was wearing his white No.32 Xavier game uniform and shooting around when the Duquesne team arrived at the Cincinnati Gardens.

Dukes coach Darelle Porter walked slowly toward Williams and said, “There's a photo shoot, right?”

“I'm coming out of retirement,” Williams said with the slightest smile.

Williams, out for the season with a knee injury, was suited up so he could work out for team physical therapist Alan Howell.

In honor
XU senior James Posey was honored before Tuesday's game for becoming a member of Xavier's 1,000-point club (Dec. 21 vs. Loyola Marymount) and for being a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Goodwill Games team last summer.

Posey has 1,220 career points, 19th on the school's all-time list. He was held to nine points Tuesday, ending a streak of 15 straight games in double figures.

In memory
There was a moment of silence before the game for former Rhode Island player John Bennett, who died late Monday of injuries suffered in a Jan. 28 auto accident. The A-10 asked all schools to observe a moment of silence for Bennett.

Dicky V, ba-beee
The ABC broadcast team has been changed for Sunday. Dick Vitale and Brent Musburgerwill work the Xavier-Temple game.

Prosser rumors
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday the University of Pittsburgh is targeting Xavier coach Skip Prosser and Siena coach Paul Hewitt for its coaching job, which will open at the end of the season. ESPN2 also reported that Sunday night.

Pitt has not asked for permission to talk to Prosser.

Notable numbers
Freshman Aaron Turner scored a career-high eight points. ... Lenny Brown, in his 100th consecutive start, moved into eighth place on the school's all-time scoring list (1,652 points).

Up next
Xavier plays host to Temple at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gardens.
