There are no unbeaten Division I women's basketball teams left in the country. Thanks to Xavier.

The Musketeers rallied from a 13-point deficit and knocked off No.11 Virginia Tech 71-67 Friday night before 1,080 fans at Schmidt Fieldhouse, handing the nation's lone remaining undefeated team its first loss.

“It was the best win I've experienced here in four years,” XU senior Nikki Kremer said. “I'm so excited.”

XU improved to 16-3 after defeating the Hokies for the sixth consecutive time. XU is 7-2 in the Atlantic 10, one game behind Virginia Tech (18-1, 8-1) in the West Division.

The Musketeers, who trailed by as many as 12 in the second half, took the lead at 53-52 on a Kim Hotz hook shot in the paint with 5:38 left.

It was 69-67 Xavier with 13.2 seconds left. Virginia Tech was bringing the ball upcourt. Then XU's Nicole Levandusky forced a turnover against Amy Wetzel. Jennifer Phillips picked up the ball and threw it to Levandusky, who scored with 2.3 seconds left.

As the buzzer sounded, a couple dozen students ran onto the court to celebrate with the team.

“It's nice, because it shows where our program has gone,” XU coach Melanie Balcomb said of the victory. “But we still have a lot of work to do ... I'm trying not to blow it out of proportion.”

Hotz led XU with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and Levandusky added 14 for Xavier, which shot 63 percent in the second half and forced 22 turnovers in the game.

“It hurts tonight,” Hokies coach Bonnie Hendrickson said.
