Coach: Mike Croley (36-40, including 1-0 this year)
Outlook: Croley was counting on a big season, but injuries have begun to unravel his hopes. He had seven starters miss the season-opening 8-0 victory last Saturday against McCreary Central.
With only 43 players in the program, that's quite a hit.
''I've never seen anything like it,'' Croley said. ''Our kids are pumped up; we're just injury-riddled.''
Among the bigger losses was junior halfback Dugan Schlueter suffering a broken collarbone; he'll probably miss six weeks. Schlueter was the team's QB last year, but those duties now fall to sophomore Brian Meade, himself struggling with a sprained wrist.
Grant County had beaten Dixie and tied Ryle in preseason scrimmages before the injuries struck. The victory over McCreary Central could be misleading; the Raiders were 0-10 last year.
''We were on a very high; now we're on a very low,'' Croley said. ''All the (injured) guys will come back late, maybe too late. I thought we could make a run at the district (title), but there's probably no chance now.''
