Coach: Tom Spritzky (20-22)
Outlook: Seats on Dixie's bandwagon are going fast. The Colonels are in uncharted territory at No. 4 in the Enquirer's coaches poll -- with two first-place votes -- and seventh in the Courier-Journal's AAA state coaches poll.
Dixie has 22 seniors and 15 returning starters, with several college prospects among them.
Dixie's biggest talents are two of its biggest players: 6-foot-3, 275-pound lineman Brett Blackwell and 5-10, 205-pound linebacker/running back Scott Stamper. Blackwell earned all-region honors the past two years; Stamper totaled 117 tackles last year.
Senior Chris Unkraut returns as quarterback, having thrown for 1,549 yards and nine touchdowns last fall. That yardage total is second-highest in Northern Kentucky among returning quarterbacks (behind the 1,642 of CovCath's Brett Dietz.) Again, twin brother Tom Unkraut will be a favorite target -- he caught 42 passes for 657 yards last year.
Dixie's trick, of course, will be to find a way to crack the Highlands-CovCath grip atop this district.
