Coach: Lynn Ray (198-97, including 1-0 this year)
Outlook: CovCath began the year ranked No. 3 in the Courier-Journal's Class AAA state coaches poll. Louisville St. Xavier, the state's top-ranked AAAA team, will suggest CovCath was ranked a little low; CovCath upset St. X 24-14 in the season opener last Saturday.
The Colonels (1-0) will be dangerous this fall mainly because of a supercharged offense. ''We will score points on you,'' Ray said.
In senior QB Brett Dietz and junior tailback Cole Chadwick, CovCath returns the most profilic performers at their positions in Northern Kentucky.
Dietz threw for 1,642 yards and 10 touchdowns last year. ''I think he's the best quarterback in Kentucky,'' Ray said. Chadwick ran for 1,677 yards and 17 TDs last fall.
CovCath's schedule includes the preseason No. 1 teams in three classes: St. X (AAAA), Highlands (AAA) and Beechwood (A). It also plays Columbus St. Francis DeSales, which won Ohio's Division III title the past two seasons.
CovCath's third victory this fall will be the 200th of Ray's 24-year career.
