Coach: Rick Thompson (2-8)
Outlook: These are Rebels with a cause. Last year, they endured the school's first losing season in 17 years as Thompson started eight sophomores in a youth movement.
The result: Boone returns 30 lettermen and 16 starters. It will be better this year, and even better next fall.
The offensive star will be junior tailback Timmy King, who gained 523 yards rushing (4.4 avg.) and scored seven touchdowns last year as the No. 2 back to then-senior Preston Herron. Now the ball is King's to keep; and he'll likely become the latest in Boone's long line of 1,000-yard rushers.
Junior Robbie Flick should fare better in his second year as QB. Constantly scrambling last year, he completed just 30 of 93 passes for 436 yards.
''Our offensive line needs to develop,'' Thompson said. ''They are the key to our season.''
At linebacker, King led the team in tackles last year. Flick also starts at defensive back. Senior Jason Parkey (wingback/defensive back) also excels playing both ways.
