Coach: Mike Yeagle (103-10)
Outlook: The Streak is over, a Northern Kentucky-record 38-game run that ended in a state semifinal loss at Middlesboro.
''It has taken a lot of pressure off the kids,'' Yeagle said. ''It's not hanging over the top of them.''
For the record, a 26-game regular-season winning streak remains, which Yeagle couldn't care less about. His non-district schedule is murderous: Bigger-school powers Cincinnati Western Hills, Newport, Covington Catholic and Owensboro Catholic.
Though just three Tigers started last year, Beechwood has believers; it again ranks No. 1 in the Courier-Journal Class A coaches poll. There are 24 seniors to ease growing pains. ''We have to grow up fast,'' Yeagle said.
Two-way lineman Matt Mercer will be heavily recruited. Mike Nie is the new quarterback; Benny List, who started at wide receiver last year, moves to running back.
Beechwood will be a force because of sheer girth, with the area's biggest offensive line. ''They're as big as the doggone Denver Broncos,'' Dayton coach Dan Ridder said.
