        Mason lost its No. 1 ranking in the Enquirer Division I girls basketball poll this week for the first time since the 1996-97 season.

Springboro girls move to head of the class
        Springboro's girls basketball team has a terrific junior class, a husband-and-wife coaching team, and now, for the first time, the No.1 spot in The Enquirer's Division II-IV poll.

        Mason, the No.1 team in The Enquirer's Division I girls coaches poll, had its Fort Ancient Valley Conference win streak snapped at 105 games with a 50-47 loss to Harrison.

        The road to success for the Purcell Marian girls basketball team has been long and hard. Also-rans of the Girls Greater Cincinnati League for 20-plus seasons, the Cavaliers have surfaced as a contender this season behind coach Mike Peddicord.

        Jessica Schmidt was on defense during a recent drill when center Amber Sims ventured in the lane. Schmidt swatted the ball away and knocked Sims to the floor. That pretty much summarizes Schmidt's domination the past three seasons.
