Class on composting, lawn management

BURLINGTON - The Boone County Extension Office will present a free class on backyard composting and lawn establishment and care.

The class will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the extension office.

Participants will learn how to select and plant the best lawn grasses and how to build and manage an active compost pile.

Grief support program for children ages 5-18

CRESTVIEW HILLS - Grieving children ages 5 to 18 and their caregivers can participate in STARS, a grief support program.

The program is from 6:30-8 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month.

The orientation class will be Sept. 9, and the first meeting will be Sept. 16 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Crestview Hills.

Learn about a career in police work

INDEPENDENCE - Kenton County adults are invited to the fourth session of the Kenton Regional Citizen's Police Academy.

The class will be 6-9 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Crestview Hills City Building.

Participants can interact with police officers and learn about the policing profession.

The application deadline is Aug. 26.

Festival, dinner at Holy Cross High School

COVINGTON - Food, drinks, raffles, games and booths will be available at the Holy Cross High School Festival.

The free event will be from 5:30 p.m. to midnight Sept. 5 and 6.

A fish dinner will be held on Friday and a chicken dinner will be on Saturday.

Oldies music at Monmouth Theatre

NEWPORT - The Monmouth Theatre will present Richie and the Students, a band featuring music from the 1950's and 1960's.

The event will be 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Aug. 31.

The band will play 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and attendees can then walk to the levee to view the Riverfest fireworks.

The band will resume playing from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The event costs $3.

The theater is at 636 Monmouth St. in Newport.

Shakespeare play in Edgewood

EDGEWOOD - The city of Edgewood and the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival will present William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The free event will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7 in the Madison Pavilion at President's Park. The rain date will be Sept. 13.
