Husker facing 21 days in jail

The Associated Press

LINCOLN, Neb. - Suspended Nebraska offensive lineman Junior Tagoa'i will be in jail for the Cornhuskers' home opener next week.

Tagoa'i was sentenced Friday to 21 days in jail, beginning Tuesday, and fined $500 for hitting his girlfriend in April while she was holding their child.

He also was fined $350 after being found in contempt of court for making an obscene gesture in court at an earlier hearing.

Tagoa'i's attorney, Chris Eickholt, did not comment on whether an appeal would be filed.

Tagoa'i's fate with the football team remained uncertain. Coach Frank Solich had said he would make a decision once the court issues were settled

MIAMI: Coach Larry Coker has not ruled wide receiver Roscoe Parrish out of the third-ranked Hurricanes' season opener at Louisiana Tech Aug. 30.

Parrish, who is expected to serve as the Hurricanes' primary slot receiver and punt returner, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Aug. 11 and has been held out of practice since.

But Parrish has continued to let Coker know that he will be healed in time to face the Bulldogs.
