Starting next week, Issie Chapman's grandchildren in Huntsville, Ala., will be receiving her tender loving care. Just as her patients have for 47 years.
After nearly half a century in nursing service, Chapman - "Chappi" to her friends and co-workers - retired Thursday. She was a member of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit of Jewish Hospital.

"I have seen a lot of changes and met a lot of interesting people in 47 years," Chappi said Thursday while enjoying a going-away party.
"I may do some part-time nursing. Right now the main thing on my mind is spending time with my grandkids."
Chappi, 66, of North Avondale, became interested in nursing when her mother died of cancer. She started studying nursing in high school and later received a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing.
She has remained active in the Regional Oncology Nursing Society.
Free Gatorade?
No sweat!
As the temperature climbed toward 90 degrees Thursday, 80 boxes of Gatorade arrived at the FreeStore/FoodBank, left over from the Flying Pig Marathon in May.
"This will work well for the agencies we serve that have food programs," said Jennifer Ebelhar, director of development for the FreeStore/FoodBank.
"We decided to pass the Gatorade on to an agency that could use it," said Jackie Beau, public information officer for Game Day, a consultant to the marathon.
Golf outing planned
If you can swing a golf club and dream of driving a new car, Mercy Hospital Fairfield wants your help.
TheMercy Classic Golf Tournament, to be held Sept. 8 at the Hamilton Elks Country Club, 4444 Hamilton-Middletown Road, will help the hospital expand its intensive care unit.
A lot is at stake on some holes. A hole in one will bring a $10,000 reward, and six players who are closest to the pin will compete in a hole-in-one contest for a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Information: 863-3083.
Donors help expansion
With help from donors, some anonymous, the $115,000 expanded section of the Clifton Branch Library will open Sept. 6.
The expansion is completely paid for. And better yet, no public funds were used.
Open house is from noon to 4 p.m. at 351 Ludlow Ave., Clifton.
