PARK HILLS - Joseph M. Rettig Jr., president and chairman of the former Acme Federal Savings and Loan Association and vice president of Kentucky Enterprise Federal Savings and Loan Association, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice North.

The Park Hills resident was 95.

Mr. Rettig's father, Joseph Rettig Sr., founded Acme Perpetual Building and Loan Association in Covington in 1908.

The junior Rettig became an assistant secretary for the association in 1929.

Six years later, Acme Perpetual federalized and became Acme Federal Savings and Loan Association. Mr. Rettig was its president, general manager and chairman of the board from 1956 to 1980.

That year Acme Federal merged with Kentucky Enterprise Federal Savings and Loan and Mr. Rettig became vice president.

He also served as director of the Kenton County Building and Loan League, the Kentucky Building Savings and Loan League, and the Southeastern Conference of U.S. League of Savings and Loans.

Mr. Rettig was a member of the Kenton County Fiscal Court Civil Service Commission and the Kenton County Police Civil Service Commission.

He also served as chairman of the Park Hills Equalization Board and Park Hills Planning and Zoning Commission.

In 1960, he and several business associates founded Tours Travel Agency.

Mr. Rettig resided part of the year at his winter residence in Melbourne Beach, Fla.

His wife, Alma Murphy Rettig, died in June.

There are no survivors.

Visitation is 10:30-11:30 a.m. Monday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, 1021 Madison Ave. in Covington. Mass of Christian burial is 12:05 p.m. Monday at Mother of God Church, 119 W. Sixth St. in Covington. Interment is at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Erlanger.

Memorials: Mother of God Church, 119 W. Sixth St., Covington, KY, 41011.
