Man hospitalized after Locust Street shooting

COVINGTON - An early morning shooting Friday in the 1100 block of Locust Street resulted in a man in his 20s being hospitalized.

Covington Police, citing the new federal health care privacy act, would not identify the man or say whether his injuries were life-threatening. They also would not elaborate on how many times he was shot.

Police are looking for three black men who fled the scene in a gold four-door Chrysler, said Covington Police Lt. Col. Mike Kraft. Witnesses told police the car drove by the victim as he stood on the street about 1 a.m.

"We're still working on a motive," Kraft said. "We were unable to talk to the victim (early Friday). He was in surgery."

The shooting victim was taken to University Hospital in Cincinnati.

Anyone with information on the shooting should call Covington Police at (859) 292-2222.

Police say man stole cart from Reds' home

COVINGTON - An Alexandria man was jailed early Friday after he allegedly stole a golf cart from Great American Ball Park and drove it down a Covington street.

William Wanamaker, 29, is charged with one count of receiving stolen property over $300, said Covington Police Lt. Col. Mike Kraft. The felony carries a penalty of one to five years in prison upon conviction.

"It was a John Deere type cart, and obviously it raised the officers' suspicion when they saw him driving it in the 1800 block of Holman Avenue in the early morning hours," Kraft said. "He admitted taking the golf cart from Great American Ball Park by hot wiring the vehicle."

Earlier this month, Wanamaker served 10 days for third-degree criminal trespassing and receiving stolen property over $300, according to jail records. He remains in the Kenton County Detention Center under $2,500 cash bond.

Rosedale Park gets grant for improvements

COVINGTON - Rosedale Park will be improved with a $79,000 federal grant.

In a statement released Friday, U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, a Southgate Republican, said the money is coming through the National Parks Service Land & Water Conservation Fund and must be matched with local government funds.
