Today's career talk

Office furniture cannot be used as a symbol of power in the Pasadena, Calif., headquarters of Idealab, according to the August edition of Discovery magazine: "Everyone from the lowliest technician to the president gets a plain door from Home Depot, laid flat on two filing cabinets. The ceiling is open to the rafters, and employees work at pods of office carrels, each a little company being born."

John Eckberg

TODAY'S COMPANY: CONSTRUCTION PLUS INC.

PARTNER FOR DEVELOPERS: Based in Sycamore Township, Construction Plus was founded in 1996 by Cecil Hudson, who continues as its president and CEO. The company provides both general contracting and construction management for commercial and industrial projects throughout the Midwest. Because of Hudson's expertise in such matters as environmental assessment, site assessment and cost estimation, Construction Plus is often brought into projects at an early stage.

NEW LOOK, NEW LIFE: Many of the company's projects are renovations. Currently, Construction Plus is redeveloping The Continent in Columbus, a 22-building multi-use commercial site originally built in the 1970s. Locally, Construction Plus is finishing a mezzanine for the Mason Public Library and renovations of two retail stores for Verizon Wireless: one in Florence and one in Beavercreek, Ohio.

ROTORS TO RESTAURANTS: Clients include General Electric, Prime Medical Group, the U.S. Department of Defense, Clopay Corp., Frisch's and Applebee's.

STAFF: The company employs 14.
