Last summer, the spray-on tanning booth drew folks in for instant bronzing. This summer, the application has gotten more sophisticated with the "tan" being applied sans the booth using an airbrush gun, giving a smoother, more even color. And tanners can get a sculpted look by requesting heavier coloring to highlight muscles.
"It's actually been around for decades for movie stars and celebrities," says Michael Dougherty of Anything Airbrushed Plus in Cheviot. "It's just now starting to hit the Midwest."
"We buff it out as we go, and it goes in for a cleaner, more even-looking tan," says Carrie Arnett of Body Waxing Plus, Kenwood.
The coloring lasts five to 14 days, says Arnett.
Shaving and exfoliating should be done before the airbrushing, which can be done in a bathing suit or ... not. Overall airbrushing is $25-$28, often with a discount for subsequent applications. Information: Body Waxing Plus, 985-9185 and Anything Airbrushed Plus, 662-5400.
