Take your pill: A recent University of Florida report says a combination of exercise and vitamin E may slow aging.
UF nursing researchers found older men and women who exercised regularly and took vitamin E supplements became healthier and significantly decreased their levels of a blood marker that signals the destruction of certain cells called free radicals. That process, known as free radical-induced oxidative stress, contributes to aging and disease.
In fact, study participants who took only the supplement showed much lower levels of oxidative stress and blood pressure. The study appears in the current issue of the journal Biological Research for Nursing.
For your benefit
Get in the swing: While summer seems to be overrun with races, there are three upcoming golf charity events that are better than par.
Cincinnati Sports Leagues presents its second annual Charity Golf Classic Saturday at Glenview Golf Course in Springfield Township, with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit Give Back Cincinnati, a nonprofit organization of volunteers ages 18-35. $75 per person or $300 per foursome. 533-9386 or www.gocsl.com.
Mother of Mercy High School's golf invitational tournament tees off with 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. flights Aug. 15 at Grand Oaks Club in West Harrison. Proceeds go to the school's scholarship programs. $100 per golfer; includes shirt, gift bag, food, drinks and a team photo. 251-0937 or www.motherofmercy.org.
The eighth annual Michael W. Bany Memorial Golf Scramble is 1:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Kings Island Golf Center in Mason. Proceeds go to the Michael W. Bany Scholarship Fund for students interested in music education. $100 per golfer, $400 per team. 677-8393.

Get out: The Evendale Recreation Center has a variety of outdoor activities this month, from white-water rafting and outdoor rock climbing next week in West Virginia to backpacking to trips to the Dude Ranch in Mason and the Louisville Skate Park. Open to residents and nonresidents; costs vary from $181 for the all-inclusive, three-day West Virginia trip to $5 for the skate park ride to Louisville. 563-2247.
Don't pop a wheelie: A recent story on mothers exercising with their babies in strollers prompted a call from the folks at StrollerFit. They invite new mothers to join them for summer classes at Ault, Symmes Township, Pine Hills Lakes and Crescent Springs parks. They even have in-line skating nights at 6:30 Wednesdays at the Loveland Bike Trail. (866) 222-9348 or www.strollerfit.com.

Triathlon: The second annual Freedom Challenge Urban Eco Competition is accepting applications for its event on Sept. 21.
