MIDDLETOWN - A single bottle of E&J Brandy, found under the front seat of a car a teen was driving early Friday, led police to a much larger inventory: more than 230 bottles of liquor at an alleged illegal "after-hours" house.
There was so much booze, "it's like a state liquor store," said Lt. Don Owens.
Officers confiscated the liquor, more than $6,000 in cash, price lists and records listing the inventory's value at $5,500, police said.
Officers arrested Homer Lee Robinson, 64, of the 1100 block of Fourteenth Avenue. He appeared Friday in Municipal Court on charges of bootlegging and furnishing alcohol to minors.
Robinson, who is free on bond, will appear again in court Aug. 22. Friday's bust happened in the predawn hours after an officer saw a young man go inside Robinson's residence for about five minutes, then get back into a vehicle.
Police said the driver, Jeremy Sewell, 19, of the 2900 block of Orlando Avenue, admitted taking his 17-year-old passenger to Robinson's residence to buy liquor.
