Charges vs. ex-MU coach dropped
The Associated Press
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - A criminal charge was dropped Wednesday against a former Miami University football coach accused of striking a Marshall fan.
The misdemeanor battery charge against former defensive coordinator Jon Wauford was dismissed at the request of prosecutors. Cabell County Assistant Prosecutor Charles W. Peoples cited an out-of-court settlement of two related civil lawsuits.
Wauford was accused of knocking down Robert A. Flaugher of Pickerington, Ohio, as he and other Marshall fans celebrated on the field after Marshall defeated Miami Nov. 12. Flaugher was hospitalized briefly after he was knocked unconscious when his head hit the stadium's artificial turf.
Wauford was suspended by Miami and later resigned.
