Snyder leads Ohio Open

Enquirer staff and wire services

Davey Snyder shot a 5-under-par 65 to take a one-shot lead over Eric Frishette and Paul Wackerly III after one round at Tam O'Shanter in Canton. Kent State grads Frishette and Ben Curtis, who won the British Open on Sunday, tied for second last year.

U.S. JUNIOR GIRLS: Michelle Wie, 12, carded a 2-under 69 to share first-round lead with Paula Creamer in Fairfield, Conn. Last month she beat a field of women to win the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links title and then competed in the U.S. Open for the first time.

Carling Coffing of Middletown shot an 80.
