DA's decision on Kobe case set for today
Leading scorer Hamilton to stay with Pistons

EAGLE, Colo. - After two weeks of investigation, the district attorney will announce today whether Kobe Bryant will be charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman.
Bryant, a three-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, surrendered to authorities July 4 on allegations he attacked the woman at the exclusive mountain resort Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in nearby Edwards on June 30.
The five-time All-Star was in Colorado for knee surgery at a Vail clinic. In his only public comments on the case, Bryant told the Los Angeles Times he "would never do something like that."
Bryant attended the ESPY Awards with his wife in Los Angeles Wednesday but avoided the media in his first public appearance since his arrest.
If charges are filed, Bryant would have to return to Colorado on Aug. 6.
The Lakers had a happier event to deal with Thursday, a news conference to introduce signees Karl Malone and Gary Payton.
"We've got a mission," said Malone, who became the second-leading scorer in league history while with Utah. "Anything less than a championship is going to be a disappointment for a lot of people."
Malone, 40 next week, and Payton, 35, signed at discount prices. Payton will be paid the midlevel exception of $4.917 million next season; Malone gets the veteran's exception of $1.5 million.
"We did this to get a championship," said Payton, who was traded from Seattle to Milwaukee during last season.
PISTONS: Richard Hamilton agreed to a new deal with Detroit. Terms of the restricted free agent's contract weren't announced.
Hamilton topped Detroit with a 19.7-point scoring average, and averaged 3.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists during the 2002-03 regular season.
CAVALIERS: Cleveland signed free agent point guard Kevin Ollie, giving the Cavs a veteran to take pressure off rookie LeBron James.
Ollie, 30, played with Milwaukee and Seattle last season, averaging 6.5 points and 3.5 assists per game. He had the league's best assists-to-turnovers ratio at 4.04-to-1.
CELTICS: A clerk magistrate has declined to file assault charges against forward Antoine Walker for an altercation with a fan on May 11 at the FleetCenter. The man said in a police report that Walker poked him in the face several times.
WARRIORS: Free agent Gilbert Arenas will be arraigned next month on charges of possessing a concealed weapon and driving without a license. The charges stem from a June 4 traffic stop in San Francisco.
