Ralph Lauren puts out polo shirts with a twist

By Joy Kraft
The Cincinnati Enquirer

polo With the resurrection of preppy, it should be no surprise that Ralph Lauren has come up with a new twist on one of the trend's cornerstones - his classic collared knit shirt for women with the polo player galloping from the shoulder.

In Vogue's July issue, Lauren says: "They remind me of M&Ms. The colors are really fresh."

But the sweetest thing is that the shirts can dress up or down with anything from cargos to heels and a mini.

Cut more narrow to hug the curves, the Skinny, as the new cut is called, can be custom-ordered in a rainbow of 40 colors - Bali purple to solar yellow - with the pony man in about whatever thread color floats your boat.

Pistachio green with a cherry rider? Vanilla with a candy pink pony? The custom combos are available at www.polo.com or (888) 475-7674 for $62.

Those who aren't as picky about their polos can order Skinnies in 11 colors for $52 at the same site, or saunter up to the Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store at Prime Outlets in Jeffersonville (Exit 65 off I-71, north of Cincinnati) where they sell pink, black, white, navy and light-blue shirts for $39.99. If you're lucky and hit a sale, they can be had for $29.99.
