Kentucky obituaries



The Kentucky Enquirer publishes obituaries of residents in Boone, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton and Pendleton counties as a free service. Obituaries are published based on available space each day and may be held until space is available. Information is accepted from funeral homes 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Boone County

Paul Gross

WALTON - Paul Marshall Gross, 84, a retired employee for Southern Railway who worked at Cincinnati's Union Terminal, died Thursday at his home.

He operated a horse van service, transporting racehorses, and was the former manager for the T.C. Melrose Horse Farm and the Jimmy Brinks Horse Farm.

He was a member of First Church of Christ in Burlington, and of the Railway Clerks Union.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Durr Gross; a daughter, Pauline Gross Flynn of Walton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today and service 10 a.m. Saturday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Walton. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Ruth M. Sorrell

BELLEVUE - Ruth M. Sorrell, 93, an office clerk for Gidding-Jenny Co. in Cincinnati, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital in Fort Thomas.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Newport, and of the Avenue Social Club in Bellevue.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1995.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Alerding of Fort Thomas and Judy McGovern of Bellevue; a son, Thomas of Bellevue; a stepson, Jim Sorrell of Edgewood; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon and service noon Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Court Place and York Street, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate.

Memorials: Sorrell Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of Bellevue High School, 201 Center St., Bellevue, KY 41073; or St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Court Place, Newport 41071.

Kenton County

Flora Barberick

COVINGTON - Flora Shelton Barberick, 91, a clerk for the Herschede Co. jewelers, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Covington.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Latonia.

Her husband, Frank, died in 1965; and a daughter, Dorothy Barberick, in 1997.

Surviving are: three daughters, Joyce Coyne-Tunning of Erlanger, Lucy Flowers of Delhi Township, and Lynne Coyne-Gammon of Highland Heights; a son, Frank Barberick of Sparta; a sister, Dorothy Smith of Owenton; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. and service 11 a.m. Saturday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Laura Freidhof

COVINGTON - Laura Strefelt Freidhof, 81, of the Latonia neighborhood, died Monday at Rosedale Manor. A homemaker, she was formerly a resident of Bellevue.

Surviving are a son, Dennis of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter, Darlene Groh of Bellevue; two sisters, Anna Mae Hill of Sun City, Ariz., and Thelma Strefelt of Latonia; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. and service 11 a.m. Saturday at A.C. Dobbling & Son Funeral Home in Bellevue. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate.

Rebecca Graven

COVINGTON - Rebecca Graven, 41, a member of the First Church of God in Florence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center here.

Surviving are her parents, Ron and Carolyn Perry of Covington; a daughter, Tia Duff of Crescent Springs; her companion, Timothy Graven of Covington; a brother, Michael Duff of Victoria, Texas; and three sisters, Kimberly Holcomb of Hazard, Alisa Schuchart of Taylor Mill, and Belinda Walter of Edgewood.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today and service 10 a.m. Saturday at Swindler & Currin Funeral Home in Latonia. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill.

Jacob Redman

COVINGTON - Jacob Hunter Redman was stillborn Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.

Surviving are the parents, James Jacob and Ashley Hunter Redman of Covington; paternal grandparents, James and Teresa Redman of Morningview; maternal grandfather, William Hunter of Florence, and maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Hunter of Covington.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.

Judy D. Smith

COVINGTON - Judy Diane Smith, 50, a nurse's aide at the former Ridgeview Manor nursing home here, died Tuesday at her home.

She was a member of Highland Avenue Wesleyan Church in Covington, and was a former employee for Frisch's Big Boy Restaurant on Philadelphia Street in Covington.

Surviving are a son, Jason W. Jump of Covington; a daughter, Jamie L. Brashear of Covington; a brother, Jimmy L. Lemons of Montgomery, Ala.; four sisters, Nancy C. Smith of Independence, Patti G. Gilligan, and Vicki Lynn Ashcraft, both of Covington, and Teddie W. Kelly of Montgomery, Ala., and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today and service 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home in Latonia. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell.

Memorials may be made to any Veterans of Foreign Wars post.

Robert Rich

EDGEWOOD - Robert Wallace Rich, 74, a former member of Ponderosa Archery Club, died Wednesday at Villaspring of Erlanger Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Surviving are a brother, Dr. James Rich of Taylor Mill; and a niece and two nephews.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Independence Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Jeff T. Dalton

LUDLOW - Jeff T. Dalton, 61, of Crittenden died Wednesday at his home. Formerly of Ludlow, he had been a machinist for the William T. Powell Co. in Cincinnati.

He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America.

Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Dalton; two sons, Jeff of Williamstown, and Robert of Crittenden; three daughters, Maralena Dalton of Independence, Brenda Beverding of Erlanger, and Shirley Hanna of Crittenden; a brother, Boyd Dalton of Cincinnati; a sister, Mary Holder of Covington; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today and service 10 a.m. Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home in Ludlow. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell.
