Truck search finds cocaine

The Associated Press

ELIZABETHTOWN - A truck driver delivering promotional items for a beverage company was stopped with more than $500,000 worth of cocaine packed in the truck, authorities said.

Jose Antonio Beltran, 30, of Riverside, Calif., pleaded not guilty to first-degree drug trafficking charges at his arraignment.

Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officers at the weigh station of Interstate 65 near Elizabethtown found discrepancies between the logbook and Beltran's story of his trip.

A search of the truck revealed hidden compartments, Maj. David Herald said Tuesday.

Officers seized 20 kilograms of cocaine wrapped in cellophane and brown tape, Herald said.

Beltran was due back in court Monday. He was being held in the Hardin County jail on a $75,000 cash bond.
