Omnimax honors Imax gift tickets

The indefinite shutdown of the Imax Theater at Newport on the Levee last week left people holding gift certificates wondering if they're out of luck.

But not to worry: Those gift certificates will be honored at the Robert D. Lindner Family Omnimax Theater at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Following Saturday's story reporting the Newport Imax's closing, several people wrote the Enquirer wondering about their gift certificates. Officials at the Newport Imax haven't responded to questions about those gift certificates.

Museum center president Doug McDonald said Imax Corp. headquarters in Toronto will allow the museum center to honor Newport's gift certificates.

The gift certificates can be redeemed at the museum center's box office. Imax Corp. will cover royalties on the first 1,000 tickets, McDonald said. "We don't have any idea" how many Newport gift certificates are outstanding.

The museum center will also accommodate groups that have pre-paid reservations at the Newport Imax. Call 513-287-7000 to make new arrangements.
