Finding the swimsuit that can make the most of your figure is no easy task. The "fit experts" from Catalina, the swimsuit maker that outfitted beauty contestants and sponsored the Miss America pageant for so many years, will be at Wal-Mart's Eastgate store 1:30-5:30 p.m. Friday to help women find the perfect suit. "Most women don't like buying a swimsuit because they can't find the suit that fits right. Our goal is to take the fear out of shopping for swimwear," says Linda Minjares, vice president of private label and mass market for Authentic Fitness, parent company of Catalina. The entire Catalina line is priced under $20 at Wal-Mart.
Online style: www.stylebakery.com is a Web site for the fashion challenged who want to be current but just can't quite put it all together. Based on "real bodies and real budgets," it tracks the latest trends and shows how to put them together. For example, two skirts are combined with different tops, shoes and accessories to show three different looks for each - work, after hours and weekend. The best thing? If you like the look of any piece, just click on it for a price and how to buy it from dot-com as well as major stores. The site was created by Jennifer Davidson, Beth Herbst and Alison Deyette who have covered fashion and lifestyle for TV.
TV's 'ER' diamond: If the glittery diamond that NBC's ER Doctor Carter (Noah Wyle) bought to woo nurse Abby (Maura Tierney) caught your eye, you'll be happy to know it was a Royal Oval cut by Fabrikant at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. The 2.12 carat diamond seen in the show was set in a hand-engraved platinum and diamond setting and is valued at $20,000. The style reflects the trend to platinum and antique-inspired designs. Stay tuned for Abby's decision next season.
Bridal hair tips: Dos and Don'ts from celebrity colorist Brad Johns and Avon Salon & Spa in New York City:
Do color your hair at least seven days before the wedding.
Do go slightly lighter and brighter, especially around the face, to give a radiating glow.
Do create a style that is tailored, sculpted and elegant and doesn't require constant upkeep.
Do consult bridesmaids about their hair styles. One bad "do" can spoil the look.
Don't make a dramatic change in color before your big day.
Don't experiment with a choppy, funky or spiky style.
Don't skimp on highlights
Brighton event at Parisian: Two Brighton representatives will give a peek at the latest spring line of handbags, accessories, jewelry and sunglasses 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today in the accessories department at Parisian, Kenwood Towne Centre.
Real women on the runway: During the big Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this fall in New York a new kind of model will be on the catwalk for the Ortho Evra Every Woman Fashion Show - real women, not skinny-Minnie models. Ten women, 18 to 45, will win a chance to model and keep one of the designer outfits in the event in partnership with Esteemed Woman Foundation, a nonprofit that builds self-esteem and inner strength in women. Details at www.everywomanfashion.com or enter by mail by printing name, address, evening phone, occupation, age, essay (100 words or less on why the person should model) and photo of the nominee to Ortho Evra Every Woman Model Search Contest, P.O. Box 812420, Chicago, IL 60681-2420 by June 30.
Oink 'n' clean: Just because it has pigs on it, we think it's fun, being from Porkopolis and all. We're talking about a line of bath and body products intended for kids by Piggy Brand in California which also sells clothes for newborns-to-age 12s. It includes Oinkment moisturizer, Hog Wash and Knot Gone de-tangler. W magazine says Catherine Zeta-Jones, Reese Witherspoon and Minnie Driver are fans, too, if you want to wash like a star.
