Boeheim balks at move to ACC

The Associated Press

Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim is less than thrilled about a possible move from the Big East Conference to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

"I think this change could be bad," he said.

ACC presidents took the first step toward expansion Wednesday, voting to admit three more schools. Two Big East schools - Miami and Syracuse - are two likely candidates.

"I don't see Miami and Syracuse benefiting that much by going," Boeheim said. "But if Miami goes and we don't, that's a major problem. Miami is the No. 1 football program in the country. ... We're making another decision based on football."

By adding three teams, the ACC would become a 12-team superconference, giving it a definite role in football's Bowl Championship Series.
