SCOTTSVILLE - A teenage girl told police that Lucas Goodrum assaulted her with a cell phone and "held her down in her car" hours before an attack that led to the death of a Western Kentucky University student, authorities said.

Goodrum, 21, is charged with murder in the death of Katie Autry, who was beaten, raped and set on fire in her dorm room early in the morning of May 4, court documents say. Autry died in a Nashville, Tenn., hospital. Authorities have not released an autopsy report.

About 11 p.m. central time May 3, Scottsville police received a call from a 17-year-old girl who said Goodrum had "struck her in the face twice" with a cellular telephone at his Scottsville apartment, according to a police report. Goodrum also "held her down in her car and would not let her leave," the report said.

Scottsville Police Chief Julian Tabor said the girl was advised she would need to obtain a warrant for Goodrum's arrest on fourth-degree assault charges, which would require a parent's signature because she was a minor. Tabor said a warrant was never obtained. Scottsville police have no other records of incidents involving Goodrum.

Another man, Stephen Soules, 20, of Scottsville, was arrested late Monday and also was charged with murder.

The men are being held in the Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of $1 million cash bond each.
