HARLAN - Kentucky State Police have recovered the majority of a stolen $120,000 shipment of alcohol originally bound for Philadelphia.
Instead, the shipment of 1,369 cases of liquor was hijacked from a Bardstown, Ky., shipping company April 12. The load included different brands of bourbon, gin, vodka, tequila, brandy and whiskey.
State police found different quantities of the shipment following a tip from an informant who told investigators about people selling liquor at discount prices, said Detective Ken Crider, an investigator at the state police post in Harlan.
So far, police have recovered 1,252 cases of the liquor at locations in Pathfork, Ky., Corbin, Ky., and Harlan County.
The bulk of the load was found in the stolen trailer police found abandoned at a truck stop near Interstate 75 in Corbin.
Police have not made any arrests in the case, Crider said.
"We've had some confessions and things, but nobody's been charged," Crider said.
Crider said the individuals who sold and bought the liquor face felony charges.
