Boys and girls have concerns about the prom, as do parents and principals, but they're miles apart, according to a scan of online sources, Seventeen magazine's special prom shopping issue and Teen Prom 2003.
Girls' biggest concern is snagging a date, followed by finding the perfect dress and achieving perfect makeup and hairstyle.
Boys' top concern is money - they are often expected to pay for tickets, transportation and dinner. Although they won't admit it, they are also concerned about finding a date - or more pointedly, about being rejected. After that, they say they don't worry about much - after all, the girl makes all the plans.
Principals and parents, on the other hand, are worried most about risky behavior. The top concerns - drugs and alcohol - are directly related to the next two: sex and reckless driving.
Finally, parents also worry about cost. With the formal wear and beauty preparations, transportation (which will likely be a limo rental) and elaborate after-prom affairs, the bill can top $1,000.
