Ford, Wade enter NBA draft
The Associated Press
Texas' T.J. Ford and Marquette's Dwyane Wade, the only underclassmen on this year's All-America team, will both apply for the NBA draft.
They announced their decisions Thursday, as did Washington State junior guard Marcus Moore. The three joined a list that includes Syracuse freshman Carmelo Anthony and juniors Mario Austin of Mississippi State, Chris Kaman of Central Michigan and Luke Ridnour of Oregon.
The draft is June 26.
Ford, who had said during the season that he was "110 percent" sure he would return for his junior year, led Texas to the Final Four for the first time in 57 years.
"It's been a real tough decision," Ford said. "I feel like I'm making the right decision. I'm not shaky about it at all."
He led Texas in scoring (15.0), assists (7.0) and steals (2.0) this season after leading the nation in assists as a freshman. His 527 career assists rank second in school history.
Wade said he spent every day since the season ended trying to decide whether to give up his senior year, but didn't make up his mind until Wednesday.
"I think I'm going to take my game to the NBA and see what the future holds for Dwyane Wade," he said at a news conference with his wife and 1-year-old son.
Marquette's first All-American since Butch Lee 25 years ago, Wade led the Golden Eagles to a 27-6 record and the school's first Final Four appearance since Al McGuire won the national title in 1977.
The 6-foot-4 Wade averaged 21.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists last season.
The other players on the AP's All-America team - Nick Collison of Kansas, Josh Howard of Wake Forest and David West of Xavier - were seniors.
The 6-foot-6 Moore missed nine games last season with an ankle injury but finished fifth in the Pacific-10 in scoring with an 18.2 average. His 4.67 assists per game were fourth in the league, and his 5.4 rebounds ranked 16th.
Also Thursday, Miami forward Darius Rice said he will return for his senior season.
The 6-10 Rice, a nephew of famed NFL receiver Jerry Rice, led the Hurricanes in scoring at 18.7 points and averaged 5.8 rebounds.
