Real Style

Even her older sisters like her ideas

By Joy Kraft

Not many older sisters would consult their 17-year-old sibling on fashion and makeup. But because of Brooke Glassman's "natural fashion sense," says her mom, Charlene, her older sisters - one a student at Ohio State, the other working in Chicago - don't hesitate to seek Brooke's advice on what looks good.

"Sometimes my mom does, too," says the senior at Sycamore High School who is headed to Indiana University this fall to study elementary education.

You can be found shopping at: Express, Hollister Co. at Newport on the Levee and American Eagle, because their clothes are up-to-date.

Describe your style: Comfortable but stylish - jeans and T-shirts to school, but sometimes I get dressed up.

Earliest fashion memory: I was in the newspaper when I was about 5 for a story on clothes and I was in a winter fashion show at Lazarus when I was about 6.

You find best bargains at: End-of-season sales.

You can never have enough: Purses and bags.

Favorite designer: I'm not really into designers. They're a little too expensive for me. I just shop at particular stores instead.

You are choosy about: My jeans: the length, the style. I like flares that cover the shoes.

Fashion pet peeve: When people wear socks with sandals or wearing a brown belt with black shoes.

If you had big bucks you'd buy: I'd get a pair of Steve Madden shoes because they're pretty expensive. They're always changing styles and are up-to-date.

Your signature look: Probably sandals and jeans and a cute T-shirt.

Fashion philosophy: Be comfortable, but look good.
